Allergy & Asthma Associates of Allen offers allergy shots to patients in need of more powerful treatment options. Your quality of life can seriously be affected by your seasonal and year-round allergies. In many cases, allergen immunotherapy can be a great treatment option.
The way it works is that the shots contain small amounts of the allergens that the patient is allergic to. Over time, the amount is increased more and more gradually in order to build up a tolerance toward that allergen. Because there is a chance that you might have a reaction, it is suggested that you stay close by so that our allergist can take care of you.
Because allergy shots help you work your way toward immunity of certain allergens, it takes time to build up the tolerance properly. At first, you will get shots on a weekly (sometimes twice a week) basis. This will last for 3 to 6 months. Then, you will begin the phase out process getting shots one to two times per month for several years. The only way to make sure it works properly is to stay consistent, and to maintain the routine for at least a few years.
Everyone is different. This is why it is important that you come to see our allergist in order to make sure that allergen immunotherapy is for you. When you see our allergist, we will conduct a few tests to see what all you are allergic to and what we need to focus our efforts on treating.
If you have any questions or concerns about allergy shots, please feel free to give us a call. We are always taking new patients and Dr. Reddy is here to make sure you are feeling better soon!
