Are Eye Allergies On The Rise?
A recent report from Market Research Reports has found that the rates of eye allergies and general eye strain are on the rise.
The study, as reported by MedGadget, indicated that there are several reasons for the rising numbers of eye problems. For one thing, our eyes are under more strain than ever. Thanks to the ubiquity of laptops, desktops, smartphones, tablets, and televisions, we spend vast amounts of time staring intently at boxes of light – which is very hard on our eyes. Many of us use a computer throughout our work day, and then go home and unwind by visiting Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter on our mobile device of choice. The result is an unprecedented strain on our eyesight, and that can cause red, dry, and inflamed eyes.
Experts believe that another factor contributing the rise of eye allergies is pollution. The closer you live to major cities or centers of industry, the more your eyes are subjected to contaminants that can spark eye allergies. Unusually high amounts of pollen in the air, especially now as the seasons are changing, can also trigger eye irritation. Between the rising levels of air pollution and historically high pollen counts in recent years, more people than ever are finding themselves affected by eye allergies.
The study noted that while eye allergies and eye fatigue are becoming increasingly common, restrictions on over-the-counter treatments mean that many sufferers will need to visit a doctor or specialist to get substantial relief.
